No card networks, no acquirer, no merchant account. Your customer scans a QR code, approves it in their own banking app, and the money lands in your account — with one fee instead of seven.

Nobody sells you a card machine by listing everything on the bill. Here's a typical statement, in pounds — and the rate it actually works out at.
£2,514 a year, on the same trade you're already doing.
Try it with your own numbers
Figures are typical UK charges and vary by provider and contract — dig out your last statement and work out your own effective rate. That's usually the moment the penny drops.
One thing to know: there are no chargeback fees with OPPay because Open Banking has no chargeback scheme at all. Payments are approved by the customer in their own bank, so disputes are rare — but if you do need to refund someone, you send the money back yourself.
Nothing for your customer to download, sign up for, or remember.
Your team types the sale into the OPPay till screen. A payment QR code appears straight away, showing your business name and the exact amount.
They point their phone camera at the code. Their own banking app opens — the one they already trust and are already logged into.
Face ID, done. Your screen confirms the payment and the funds move straight into your business account. No settlement wait, no batch.
Put your own numbers in. This is what card fees are costing you against what the same trade would cost through OPPay.
Take those last two straight off your merchant statement — the real numbers, not the rate you were quoted. If you're not sure, leave them as they are; 1.5% + 20p is a typical UK rate.
Based on the figures you enter above. OPPay's side is calculated at 0.6% of each payment, with no monthly charge.
Rates start from 0.6% and are agreed with each business individually — apply and we'll confirm yours before you take a payment.
All rates shown are exclusive of VAT.
The bigger the sale, the more a percentage costs you — and the more there is to keep.
Get paid at the door the moment the job's done — instead of invoicing and chasing it for three weeks.
Treatment plans and private care settled at reception, without handing a slice to the card networks.
Replace the slow manual bank transfer. Instant, confirmed payment before the customer drives away.
Fees and disbursements paid on the spot, straight into the firm's account, fully referenced.
Holding deposits and fees taken in person and confirmed in seconds, not days.
Sit-down dining and events where the average bill makes the saving worth having.
Furniture, jewellery, bikes, equipment — considered purchases where margin matters.
Savings shown against a typical card rate of 1.5% + 20p per transaction, with OPPay at 0.6% — our best rate, offered to higher-turnover businesses. Your own rate is agreed individually and confirmed before you go live. That figure suits a smaller business on a standard contract. If you take high volumes, or mostly debit cards, your real rate may be well under 1% and your saving will be much smaller — put your own figures into the calculator, or send us a statement and we'll work it out properly.
On VAT, because it changes the comparison. Card processors treat their transaction rates as VAT-exempt, so the card figure above is what a merchant actually pays. Our rates are quoted exclusive of VAT. If VAT applies to our fee, most businesses simply reclaim it and nothing changes — but if your own supplies are exempt, as they are for most dental and private medical practices, you would not be able to reclaim it and your real cost would be up to 20% higher than the rate we quote. We are taking professional advice on how VAT applies to our fee and will confirm it in writing before you sign anything. If that matters to your decision, ask us and we will tell you exactly where it stands.
If your average sale is under about £40 — a coffee shop, a newsagent, a takeaway counter — the saving per transaction is too small to be worth changing anything for. We'd rather tell you that now than sign you up and watch you leave.
The same goes if you already have a keen card rate. Busy businesses taking mostly debit cards can be paying well under 1%, and against that we may not save you anything. Send us a recent merchant statement before you apply and we'll tell you straight — the answer is sometimes no.
No smoke, no jargon. Here's exactly what sits on your counter.
OPPay needs something to display the QR code — a tablet, a phone, or an Android POS terminal. If you already have one behind the counter, that's your hardware sorted.
Payments land directly in it. No merchant account to open, no settlement account, no waiting three days for your own money.
Wi-Fi or mobile data. That's genuinely it — no card reader to pair, no cables, no terminal to charge overnight.
You should keep your card machine. Some customers will always want to pay by card, and OPPay is designed to sit alongside it rather than replace it overnight. What changes is the mix — every sale that moves to OPPay is a sale the card networks don't take a cut of. Most merchants start by offering it on higher-value transactions, where the saving is biggest.
Payments should be unexciting. Here's why this one is.
Authentication happens inside their banking app, with their Face ID or passcode. We never see their login, and neither does anyone else.
There are no card numbers in this process, so there's nothing to store, nothing to leak and nothing to be liable for.
Funds travel directly from your customer's account to yours. OPPay is never in the middle holding it.
Payments will be initiated through an FCA-authorised Payment Initiation Service Provider, under the UK's Open Banking framework. We are completing that onboarding now.
Short answers, no hedging.
No, and we'd advise against it. Keep it for customers who prefer cards. OPPay runs alongside it, and you save on every sale that goes through us instead.
Then they pay by card as they always have. Around nine in ten UK adults with a current account now use online or mobile banking, but there will always be some who don't — which is exactly why you keep the card machine.
Usually within seconds, over Faster Payments, straight into your business account. There's no settlement delay and no waiting for a batch to clear the next working day.
Yes. The customer approves the payment inside their own banking app using their normal security, and no card numbers are involved at any point. Payments run on Open Banking, the UK's regulated payment framework, and are initiated through an FCA-authorised provider.
You refund the customer from your own bank account, the same way you'd handle a bank transfer. Because there are no card networks involved, there are also no chargebacks — which cuts both ways, so it's worth understanding before you switch.
A single percentage of each transaction. No monthly fee, no setup charge, no hardware to buy, and no minimum term. Apply and we'll confirm your rate — it depends on your transaction values and volume.
Applying takes a few minutes. Once we've verified your business you log in, enter an amount and take your first payment — there's nothing to install.
